The Mackenzie King Estate More Info
|
+ My Favorites
This sprawling estate was the private retreat of former Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King, who was Canada's leader for a record 22 years. Explore restored cottages, walking trails and landscaped gardens that come complete with stone ruins. Afterwards, relax in the charming tea room. Some feel that King's spirit still dwells within the walls of the estate, since it was the site of his passing. Address: Gatineau Park | Gatineau, QC
Notre-Dame de Lourdes Grotto + My Favorites
Based on the original Notre-Dame de Lourdes in France, this grotto is complete with a statue of Mary. Stones comprise an arched shelter that houses the alter, also made of stones. Wooden park benches operate as pews and the entire area is encapsulated in shrubs and trees. Story has it that the church and grotto were built in 1887 when a local dignitary, Michel Cyr, donated land in exchange for a free seat in church. Address: 435 Montreal Road, Vanier | Ottawa, ON
